So in 2014, or so, the renovating began. Many.....many applications and communications with the Heritage Counsel finally gave us an approved framework to build in and the ball began to roll.

The garage side of the stables were closed up to create a solid wall, and doors and windows made on the mountain facing side. We sourced beautiful, vintage door and window frames that were from old farm buildings in other parts of the Western Cape to install. The small separate garden shed was joined to the stable area to become what is now the toilet/ shower.  Flooring was levelled, ceilings cleaned and restored to a fine raw wood finish. Plumbing installed and a new roof made to protect it all.

A lot of rubble was removed and even more patience exercised to deal with the crooked nature of such old buildings. Straight lines had either not been built originally, or things had "settled" over the decades and decades to make building anything new a major challenge to anyone with the slightest old issue. :-)

When the major framework was up, we started making plans for the interior and garden.....   to be continued! :-)
